Flat Plane Pleached Trees

These trees are a relatively recent development in smaller UK gardens, although they have been part of larger estate gardens for some considerable time.

Mostly these trees are used as hedges on stilts and can be used to extend the height of your garden fence or wall to offer you more privacy in the garden

The best time to plant these trees is during the winter months when we can supply them made to your specific requirements. If you have a roof garden it is likely that you will only need a clear stem of 100cm or less, with a bamboo rack height to suit. More commonly, the clear stem is 180cm and the flat plane is 175cm square, although this sometimes needs to be adjusted in relation to the girth size of the tree.

Flat planed pleached trees are available in Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Lime (Tilia) varieties, Whitebeam (Sorbus) varieties and Ornamental Pear (Pyrus chanticleer).

Box head trees are used as hedges and individual pieces to compliment the garden. The trees are supplied with a clear stem of between 1.80 and 2.20 metres and a girth size of 18cm plus. You are unlikely to find Box-head trees with a smaller girth size as the tree needs to be mature enough to provide material to shape the box-head. Depending on the age of the tree the cubes on top can be supplied in different sizes, obviously the older the tree the larger the pre-prepared cube. Box-head pleached trees are traditionally formed from Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), but are also available in Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) and American Lime (Tilia americana).
